Item Description

A classic from the Lake George area of Colorado - famous for its Amazonite and Smoky Quartz specimens - here we have an excellent pseudomorph of the iron oxide Goethite replacing a rhomb of Siderite. This is one of the largest, sharpest and most lustrous single crystals of this material that I've had to offer in the auctions. A lot of the pseudomorphs from this area are often dull, badly damaged, rounded and fairly unattractive, but THIS piece is different. It's truly a fine quality example as it is complete all around with textbook rhombic form and the luster is certainly better than most I've seen. The surface has a bit of a multi-color iridescence, and the exterior color is a chocolate brown hue. If you collect pseudomorphs or minerals of Colorado, this is a GOOD one to add to your collection. Valued at $500. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
