Item Description

A very rare and fine quality example of the notably elusive and distinctive specimens of Goethite pseudomorphing after Kutnohorite from the famed Wessels Mine. I have only seen a handful of these strange specimens over the years, reportedly mined in the 1970s at Black Rock. This piece features dozens of columnar crystals of what started out as Kutnohorite measuring up to 7 mm, which have been completely altered / pseudomorphed in to dark greenish-black Goethite. The crystals are best viewed from the side angle, but you can see they are complete pseudomorphs, not just a partial coating. Very attractive and unusual. A must have for any fan of minerals from the Kalahari Manganese Field, as these are incredibly hard to find on the market. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
