Goethite ps. Pyrite - USA classic ex Jack Halpern Collection

Attractive and sculptural, this 360-degree miniature is a cluster of intergrown Goethite (possibly Limonite) pseudomorphs after sharp Pyrite crystals. From the well-known Utah locality of Pelican Point, these instantly recognizable pseudomorphs have a rich, mahogany-brown color and a nice silky luster. The crystals range up to an impressive 3.1 cm on edge, and the striations have been well preserved. Common in the late 1990s, you don't see many around anymore. These were collected out of what was once a fossiliferous limestone that has now altered to clay. A fine and impressive pseudomorph from the locality, this piece was mined by John Holfert and previously came out of the Paul Geffner collection.
