Item Description
The White Desert of western Egypt is well-known for striking, floater clusters of stellate goethite pseudomorphs after spearpoint marcasite crystals. Goethite pseudomorphs after Pyrite crystals are relatively RARE, compared to Marcasite pseudomorphs. This sculptural and pristine, 360-degree, floater cluster is composed of intergrown, lustrous, nicely burnished brown, modified pyrite cubes, to 3.1 cm on edge. These were originally formed as pyrite crystals on the limestone sea bottom and were then pseudomophed, retaining their original form. They were dug in the remote western desert of Egypt by Parisian dealer Alain Carion and his son in the mid-1990s. No more have been found. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Every turn presents a different perspective to this fascinating and rare piece!
