Item Description
Originally formed as Marcasite crystals on the sea bottom, these unusual specimens saw the Marcasite pseudomorphed into iron hydroxides, primarily Goethite. Floaters for the most part, these were found in the remote White Desert of southwest Egypt and dug up by French dealer Alain Carion. A large cabinet piece, this specimen features cube-like crystals sticking out every which way from a central stalk. The crystals are a lustrous, a deep chocolate-brown color, and I find the 'depth' and richness of the surfaces to be particulary enticing. These pseudos make for amazingly sculptural and attractive specimens. Mineralogy in action! Displaying well in any orientation, this three-dimensional stalk is quite aesthetic, and well-represents the great specimens from this find. We have seen few in such size and quality - this one is special, and proibably came out 20 years ago! Valued $1000-1250
