Item Description
Striking miniature starburst of lustrous, burnished-brown, nubby spearpoints of goethite after marcasite crystals from this obscure locale. These stellate White Desert, Egypt specimens are certainly some of the most sculptural and unusual pseudomorphs around. A couple of broken crystals are out-of-sight in the primary display views. These were originally formed as marcasite crystals in the chalky limestone sea bottom and were then pseudomophed, retaining their fantastic form. They were dug in the remote western desert of southwest Egypt by Parisian dealer Alain Carion and his son in the mid-1990s. No more have been found. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Every turn presents a different perspective to this fascinating piece!
