Item Description

Anhydrite is extremely rare from the famous mines at Mapimi. The species is not listed in MINDAT or the Ojuela Mine Special Issue of the Mineralogical Record. That being said, this is a showy, very rare and possibly unique pseudomorph of rust-red goethite after a fan of sharp anhydrite blades. Bubbly overgrowths of two-toned, secondary goethite add to the panache of the piece. The specimen is possibly from Santa Eulalia. MINDAT lists anhydrite for the locale, but is very rare on the market. Ex Dave Stoudt Mexico Collection # 259 and obtained from the Consie Prince Collection in 2006. This is a very rare pseudo from either locality!
