Goethite / Hematite (''Turgite'')

These specimens are often labeled as "Turgite", was actually a valid species going back to the 1840s, as it was thought to be an intermediary mineral between Hematite and Goethite. It turns out that this wasn't the case, and these classic specimens are often a mixture of both Goethite and Hematite. Some info says that these are pseudomorphs of iridescent Hematite replacing botryoidal Goethite, while another source state that the two species actually form in alternating layers, and the iridescence is caused by either an aluminum phosphate or an aluminum arsenate species. Regardless, the material from Graves Mountain is iconic, as it's some of the most displayable and eye-catching pieces you'll find. This piece is an old specimen, dating back to the 1970s and featuring dozens of beautiful botryoidal aggregates of Goethite / Hematite with a rainbow of iridescent colors (blue, pink, lilac, gold, orange and even a little green) coating the surface, sitting atop Quartz matrix. The piece is in great shape, and overall form and presentation make for a fantastic display specimen.
