Item Description
This is a lovely thumbnail specimen featuring sharp, semi-lustrous, golden-black "needles" of Goethite forming a pair of radiating aggregates free of matrix. You don't see a lot of good crystallized Goethites on the market, but this piece is fantastic for its size, quality and aesthetics. It should be noted that this mineral was named after the famous German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and the correct pronunciation of the species is GER-tite (with a hard "g" like gold). Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9879). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
