Item Description
This is an excellent specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen has no Amazonite, but it is a wonderful display piece featuring wonderful, sharp, lustrous, golden-black to reddish-black "blades" of Goethite forming a beautiful crystallized "spray". Under close inspection, one can see a few small Smoky Quartz crystals intergrown with the Goethite, along with some beautiful silvery metallic "rosettes" of Hematite on the reverse side. I have photographed the piece under the microscope to better illustrate the crystals. The quality is incredibly good for Goethite from the area, and the piece is crystallized all the way around save the back where it detached from the pocket. Crystallized specimens like this are few and far between from Colorado. Valued at $400-$500.
