Goethite (fine crystals) on Smoky Quartz

A fine piece from the Lake George area in Colorado, famous for producing what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. In addition to the Amazonites, some of the finest Goethites ever found have come from this area, and this piece a great example of CRYSTALLIZED Goethite, featuring fine, sharp, lustrous, golden-black "sprays" with individual crystals measuring up to 7 mm aesthetically sitting atop a prismatic crystal of Smoky Quartz. The piece has great form and truly displays well. It's very difficult to find superb crystallized Goethite like this from most localities, as most Goethite from around the world is either massive / amorphous, or microscopic in crystal form. This might be a "black rock" but these Goethites are some of the finest crystallized examples of the species extant! It should be noted that the pronunciation of this species is a bit confusing, but we like to point out that it was named after the famous German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, so it is properly pronounced GER-tite (with a hard "g" like Gertrude). A fine quality Colorado classic.
