Item Description

An excellent display specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The multiple pegmatites around the Lake George and Crystal Peak area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen, has no Amazonite, but it is a great example of CRYSTALLIZED Goethite, featuring fine, sharp, lustrous, golden-black "sprays" with individual crystals measuring up to 1.3 cm. There are even some tiny crystals of "Onegite" (Quartz / Amethyst with Goethite inclusions) which we've illustrated in the photos. The piece has great aesthetics, and displays well. It's very difficult to find superb crystallized Goethite like this, as most Goethite from around the world is either massive / amorphous, or microscopic in crystal form. This might be a "black rock" but these Goethites are some of the finest crystallized examples of the species extant! It should be noted that this mineral was named after the famous German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and the correct pronunciation of the species is GER-tite (with a hard "g" like gold). Don't miss out on this Colorado classic.
