Item Description
A beautiful, jet-black cluster of botryoidal (rounded) geothite, that almost completely drapes a core rock matrix. This is likely a VERY old specimen, and comes from a long defunct locale. It is, for a black mineral, really attractive. The piece is complete on the display face (first photo) and has just a few breaks to the surface on the backside, but for the size and age this is acceptable I think. It was last in the Ed David Collection (Ed was a director of the White House Office of Science and Technology and a former science advisor to President Nixon). Ed obtained it from the Uli Burchard collection - Uli is a collector who sold around 2002, and was particularly known for having superb taste in his aesthetic examples of the European classic locales. Valued ??? Ed had it at $2200.Never seen the like.
