Item Description

This old iron mine (closed in 1883) is famous for fine crystallized goethite specimens and this is a showy and excellent example accented with sparkly drusy quartz. Radial clusters of lustrous, striated, gray-black prisms to about 1.5 cm are densely and attractively clustered atop the goethite and hematite matrix. The periphery wear and bit of bruising certainly does not detract from this classic and fine old-timer from the Bob Trimingham Collection. Ex Robert Chadbourne Collection of Colorado Springs, according to Bob's label. Goethite specimens of this style are uncommon. The rich and hefty ore piece displays well from either side.
