Gmelinite (rare old specimen)

Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of Gmelinite from the obscure "Great Notch" Quarry (Francisco Bros. Quarry) in Little Falls. You just don't see specimens from this locality on the market, as it finished working in 1922. This small cabinet specimen features a coverage of vitreous soft pink colored crystals of Gmelinite measuring up to 1.3 cm with associated Calcite and / or Apophyllite / Datolite on the back of the piece. I can't really see any matrix to speak of, and the piece is nearly a complete "floater", as it's crystallized almost all the way around. Pieces from this locality are few and far between, and this is one of the very few Gmelinites we've seen from Great Notch. It should be noted that we don't know specifically which species of Gmelinite this is, but if I had to guess it would be either Gmelinite-Ca or Gmelinite-Na.
