Gmelinite-Na (fine color and quality)

Item Description

Here we have an excellent cabinet sized piece of Gmelinite-Na from the Flinders area, on the southern edge of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. This locality is well-known for producing large, world-class and notably colorful examples of this rare zeolite species. Keep in mind that most Gmelinite species are white/colorless, so when you find crystals with an intense reddish-orange hue like this, it's a big deal. This specimen features several fine quality, very lustrous crystals measuring up to 2.0 cm on basalt matrix. Upon close inspection, you can see that the crystals have defined growth "hillocks" on the surface, which is an overgrowth on the hexagonal faces, creating almost "hoppered" like effects. No major damage, outside of the periphery where the piece was trimmed / removed from the pocket wall.
