Item Description
Glaucodot and cobaltite specimens are highly desirable European classics from this historic mining area. A glorious, well-formed, 1.3 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm, sharply terminated orthorhombic crystal is dramatically perched atop the hefty ore matrix. The crystal has typical splendent silver-metallic luster beautifully accented with the stepped-growth faces. A rare Co-Fe-As sulfide species, mineral specimens of this quality are RARE and desirable from ANY worldwide locality. Hakansboda easily produces the VERY BEST examples of the species and glaucodot specimens are rarer, than cobaltites from here. Copper mining started here in the early 1400s and switched to cobalt later. The main mining period was from 1702 until 1873, with minor mining during World War I (MINDAT). Complete all-around and nearly pristine. Every turn presents a different perspective. Bruising along one edge is noted, but is certainly only a modest detraction to this classic and rare old-time matrix example. The piece displays well without aid. Valued at $1500-2500. A major piece from an old family collection in Europe!
