Glaucodot (classic material)

Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of the classic Glaucodots from the famous locality at Hakansboda, Sweden. This locality dates back to the 15th Century, and has produced the world's finest Cobaltite and Glaucodot specimens which are chemically very similar. Good Glaucodot crystals are hard enough to find, but a crystal over 2 cm is a real treat. The crystal itself is rough on the sides and back, but the front face is lustrous with smooth with a metallic silvery hue. A lot of Glaucodots from this locality have a matte luster and "dingy" looking faces, but this one actually has a beautiful patina that gives it that old world character. The habit is reminiscent of Arsenopyrite. The crystal is not 100% complete, but it's still a large and decent quality example of these old classics. Certainly hard to find and desirable in today's market.
