Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of the classic Glaucodots from the famous locality at Hakansboda, Sweden. This locality dates back the the 15th Century, and has produced the world's finest Cobaltite and Glaucodot specimens which are chemically very similar. Good Glaucodot crystals are hard enough to find, but to have a specimen with a 2.5 cm crystal is a real treat. The crystal itself is notably sharp and lustrous with smooth brilliant metallic silvery faces. A lot of Glaucodots from this locality have a matte luster and "dingy" looking faces, but this one actually has a beautiful patina that gives it that old world character. The habit is reminiscent of Arsenopyrite. The crystal is not 100% complete, but it does have a display side where you can clearly see the broad striated faces with little damgae. The piece comes with an OLD handwrittend label from Bryce M. Wright of London. Certainly hard to find and valuable in today's market.
