Item Description

A classic and fairly hard to find Glaucodot specimen from the famous locality at Hakansboda, Sweden. Mining at this locality dates back the 15th Century, and has produced the world's finest Cobaltite and Glaucodot specimens which are chemically very similar. Good Glaucodot crystals are hard enough to find, and matrix specimens are even more desirable. The crystal on this specimen measures 1.1 cm, though it is a bit rough on one corner, but the front faces are lustrous with smooth with a metallic silvery hue. A small "wedge"-shaped peaks through on the side of the main crystal for a nice touch. A lot of Glaucodots from this locality have a matte luster and "dingy" looking faces, but this is bright and shiny. The habit is reminiscent of Arsenopyrite. The crystal is not 100% complete, but it's still a large and good quality example of these old classics on matrix. Certainly hard to find and desirable in today's market.
