Item Description
A dramatic and most impressive large example of the so-called "Gitter Quartz" found in the western Erongo Mountains and the nearby Klein Spitzkoppe in Namibia. They can form a dense three-dimensional lattice of crystals, hence the German name 'Gitterquarz' ('fence' or 'lattice' quartz). This striking specimen, in which the photos really do speak for themselves, looks like a large tortoise, with a long neck and the gitter quartz exposed underneath the shell of the turtle! The clusters all appear to be about 90 degrees from each other, like Japan-law twin quartz crystals. Quartz can be notoriuosly hard to mine, and this sculptural piece has only about two gently bruised terminations in the "body", for all the crystal density. One of the finest examples of this rare form of quartz that I have seen. Aesthetic and most unusual. Charlie Key dealer stock.
