Item Description
Classic example of the epitaxial growth of Gitter Quartz on a very large, sharp Orthoclase crystal. The frosted, Smoky Quartz crystals range up to 2.5 cm, though the average is about 1-1.5 cm. They can form a dense three-dimensional lattice of crystals, hence the German name "Gitterquarz" ("fence" or "lattice" quartz). To see the lattice of Quartz extend out from the edges of the 14.5 cm Orthoclase, all at angles similar to a Japan Law twin, is visually stunning and so very unusual. An impressive example of this rare form of Quartz.
