Item Description
When I picked this up and looked at the 'woven' Quartz crystals, my first reaction was "Wow, this looks like a Gitter Quartz". Then I turned it over, and knew for sure. This is a classic example of the epitaxial growth of Gitter Quartz on a very large Orthoclase crystal, but the amazing thing is that Orthoclase is now gone and the Quartz has formed a blocky cast in the shape of the Orthoclase. The Quartz crystals range up to 2.1 cm. They are in very good condition and translucent to gemmy, though the luster ranges from average on the prism faces to very good on the termination faces. The needle-like Schorls have superb luster, as they normally do. An impressive and visually interesting example of this rare form of Quartz, with a good association.
