Gitter Quartz and Hyalite Opal on Feldspar

Item Description

A striking and classic example of the epitaxial growth of gitter quartz on a large, sharply terminated orthoclase crystal. The smoky quartz crystals range up to 4.7 x 4.5 cm. Most are pristine and actually gemmy, but the faces are generally frosted. One side is covered with a large amount of fluorescent, vibrant green, hyalite opal. A few gently bruised crystals and a couple of smaller, out-of-the-way broken crystals are noted. A visually impressive 360-degree piece with every turn presenting an entirely different perspective and displays well without aid!
