Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Gillespite from the Madrelena Mine. This piece was probably mined in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Interestingly enough, this rare barium iron silicate was first discovered in Alaska of all places. The brilliant raspberry red, platy crystals of Gillespite are sitting on contrasting matrix of the off-white colored barium silicate, Sanbornite. These are not common on the market, and this a good piece for any rare species collector, and is especially fun to view under the microscope.
