Item Description

A very rarely seen specimen of the copper nickel hydroxy halide mineral, Gillardite from the type locality, the 132 North Ni Mine, in Widgiemooltha, Western Australia, Australia. This species is fairly new as it was named in 2007 after Professor, Robert D. Gillard from the Department of Chemistry, Cardiff University, Wales. The mineral has only been found in four mines in the world as of the time of this posting. This piece features attractive rich green colored micro aggregates of Gillarite, which are sitting atop oxidized matrix from the 132 North Ni Mine. We've photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A great example of this incredibly rare material.
Ex Gerry Morvell collection.
