Item Description

An incredibly sculptural, colorful and psychedelic looking crust from a recent and small find. The dramatic sky-blue gibbsite mushrooms and part of the crust are preferentially coated with light and dark brown doyleite. This gibbsite form is very uncommon, worldwide. These Al-oxide species are polymorphs. Polymorphs are two or more minerals that contain the same chemical composition, but differ in their atomical arrangement and crystal structure. This is an extremely fine and uncommon example of the combination species from the find. Surreal, and interesting! Notably the mienrals have so little mass, it feels like holding up paper more than a mineral specimen. It looks like a scene from "Alice in Wonderland" or "Fantasia".
