Item Description
This is the only specimen of this association that we've seen from the Xianghualing Ore Field. Going back to the early 2010s we started seeing these beautiful Gibbsite specimens on the market, and while the color and quality were both top notch, they were often without any associated minerals. THIS piece is a remarkable cabinet display specimen as not only does it feature a rich coverage of beautiful aqua blue to grey color botryoidal aggregates of Gibbsite with a resinous luster, but if you look closely, you can see there are thin bladed crystals of yellow Wulfenite underneath! The Wulfenite blades measure up to 1.0 cm across. I've never seen a piece of Gibbsite with associated Wulfenite from any Chinese locality before this specimen. If you flip the piece over, you can see a few tiny Wulfenite crystals that are uncoated. There are few nicks, so the piece is not 100% pristine, but it's a remarkable combo specimen, that would make a stellar addition to any collection of secondary ore minerals or Chinese specimens. Valued at $3,000 for the rare association and excellent quality. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#97 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
