Item Description
A nearly solid small cabinet specimen of Germanite-rich ore from the 28th level of the famed extinct Tsumeb Mine. Tsumeb is the Type Locality of this rare metal Cu-Fe-Ge sulfide and was named in 1922. Formerly in the B. Edmund Collection and purchased from him by the Geological Survey of Canada in 1966. The specimen was XRD'd by the Survey and yielded Gemanite, Renierite (a rare metal Cu-Zn-Fe-Ge-As-sulfide, another member of the Germanite Group) and Chalcocite. The deep levels at the 2nd Oxide Zone were noted for its amazing wealth of very rare elements and minerals containing germanium, among others. 123 grams mass. Ex John Dagenais Collection, a well-known Canadian collector. He passed away in 2022. The variable color hues of the metallic minerals in the ore add character to this exotic combination. Superb provenance on the labels!
