Item Description
Germanite is one of the many rare species for which Tsumeb is the TYPE LOCALITY. An uncommon Cu-Fe-Ge sulfide, 1992 saw its discovery in deep areas of the mine's remarkable third oxidation zone. The bright metallic luster is excellent, and you rarely find Germanite in such pure form. These zones were noted for their incredible wealth of very rare elements and minerals containing germanium, among other elements, and such specimens turn up from old collections on occasion. Although basically ore, it is germanium ore, which is something special. Previously in the Eugene Carmichael collection, a well-documented East Coast rarities collection. ex George Elling Collection.
