Item Description

A RARE and impressive large complete geode from the well-known roadcuts South of Bloomington, Indiana. The fortuitously cracked hollow geode hosts two dramatically different halves! Both halves are fully lined with sparkly druzy quartz. The striking 'A' half is divided in half by a drusy quartz septum The upper half is dominated by a glassy, translucent, 3.7 x 2.5 cm, stepped-growth Calcite rhombohedron. A 2.7 cm jackstraw cluster of small, very glassy and lustrous Baryte blades is next to the calcite. A few scattered ferroan Dolomite crystals are a nice accent. The lower half of the 'A' half is strikingly and colorfully peppered with with lustrous, saddle-shaped ferroan Dolomite crystals. The 'B' half, excellent in its own right is nearly entirely drusy quartz with a small cluster of gemmy, yellow Baryte blades. This is certainly one of the more interesting pieces from the locale, due to the number of different species in the geode and that it is a complete geode. Specimens were intermittently collected from the roadcuts from the 1960s into the 2000s.
