Item Description

A beautiful, stately and classic bi-colored watermelon tourmaline from a recent find at an unknown pegmatite in Minas Gerais. The very glassy, well-striated, layered trigonal crystal is crowned by an interesting complex translucent olive-green pyramidal termination. A beautiful gemmy 1.0 cm grass-green section follows and is dramaticaly underlain by the gemmy 7.0 cm vivid pink watermelon body with a green rind. Complete all-around and in great shape. A small contact lower on one side, with no damage, per se and three very clean repairs with a bit of epoxy filling are noted. These are certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. Mass is 65 grams. It resembles classic Barra do Salinas tourmalines but is from a new locality. Outstanding and colorful large bi-colored watermelon tourmaline from Minas Gerais.
