Gemmy Tourmaline w/ Quartz (Bill Larson Coll.)

An aesthetic, deceptive and unusual miniature tourmaline and quartz combination from the famed Himalaya Mine. The unusual tabular, highly lustrous, glassy, well-striated prism looks black or very dark green in normal light, BUT backlighting reveals the crystal is a very gemmy olive-green with very little internal layering (both photos are shown). The modified, matte lustre termination and the complementary quartz at the base (one crystal is terminated) add character and contrast to this unusual piece. IT IS NOT the typical Himalaya material, but that makes it all the more collectible to most of us. Bill said this was an abberant and old style, probably from the 1950s.
