Item Description

A classic, beautiful, OLD-TIME tourmaline from this renowned pegmatite. The gemmy, glassy, well-striated crystal has the classic "Himalaya pink" body and is capped by a frosted water-clear 1 mm light olive-green termination. The lilac lepidolites on the side are a fine accent. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, with only trivial termination edge scuffing. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 273. The low collection number dates this fine old-timer to the early 1950s or perhaps even earlier. A note on the back of the label says "Bradleys", who were Los Angeles dealers in the 1950s and 60s. 26 grams mass. The crystal GLOWS, when backlit. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
