Item Description
A colorful, beautifully gemmy, shapely, OLD tanzanite thumbnail from Merelani. The glassy rich blue crystal is quite gemmy at the top and grades to translucent at the base. Included flecks of shale or graphite add contrast to this 360-degree cutie. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6240 and acquired from Norm Dawson at the 1970 MSSC Show. 1970 was the FIRST year tanzanite specimens hit the world market in quantity. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). 10.09 carats mass or 2 grams. This old classic would make a nice pendant.
