Gemmy Tanzanite crystal (39.06 carats)

Item Description

A really attractive and sparkly thumbnail tanzanite from recent finds at Merelani. The blocky crystal has an unusual chisel termination. The upper 40% is pure gem, with only a few interior veils. The lower portion is translucent to gray with graphite inclusions. The crystal exhibits classic, textbook pleochroism. The A and B axes are the beautiful, blue and blue-violet. This is indicative of the natural unheated state of color. Complete all-around. One edge is contacted, where another crystal once lay, with only trivial bruising at the top of the contact. The side car crystal adds real character to this showy and excellent tanzanite crystal. Mass is 39.06 carats or nearly 8 grams.
