Item Description
A colorful, gemmy and shapely tanzanite crystal from recent finds. The luster and gemminess are very high. The untreated crystal exhibits classic blue/purple/reddish pleochroism, which can be seen by rotating the crystal to see the color changes. The frontal views of this unusual, steep offset termination with stepped-growth faces crystal are a pleasing blue and the end-on views are violet-purple. Flashes of red-toned lavender color (yet a third color present in some unheated natural tanzanites, though not all) are visible down the C-axis, as the base of the crystal is mostly translucent. The upper half of the crystal is entirely water-clear and the minimal internal crazing adds character and depth. It is complete all-around. Part of one edge is bruised just at the termination but this is only a modest detraction on one side of 4, all displayable. A classic and excellent Merelani tanzanite, that is definitely gemmier than most in this size and price range! 52.66 carats or 10.5 grams. Crystals of this size and quality typically sell for $160 to $220/gram or $1680-$2310.
