Item Description

A colorful, gemmy and shapely tanzanite crystal from recent finds. The untreated crystal exhibits classic pleochrosim. The frontal views of this chisel-shaped crystal are a pleasing blue and the end-on views are violet-purple. No red is visible down the C-axis, as the base of the crystal is translucent. The upper two-thirds of crystal is water-clear. The darker blue, vertical internal fractures look like a ghostly forest of tree trunks. It really gives the piece a striking visual aspect. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only trivial termination edge wear. A classic and excellent Merelani tanzanite. 38.62 carats or 7.7 grams. The price on the dealer label is 10,000 South African Rand or $1238 USD or 928 Euros, at current exchange rates.
