Item Description

The extinct Las Manforas Mine in Spain is one of the world's most famous sphalerite localities. The locality is renowned for gemmy reddish-orange to amber crystals with very high luster and this is an excellent example. The well-striated single crystal is amber in normal light, but GLOWS with golden-amber to reddish-orange color, when back lit! A fine 360-degree single crystal, nearly pristine, with only a slightly cleaved end. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11671 and acquired from Marty Zinn at the Tucson Show in 1989. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A classic, colorful Spanish sphalerite.
