Gemmy Rubellite Crystal

Rubellite specimens are rare from the famed pegmatites of the Governador Valadares area. This beautiful, trigonal, gemmy crystal is a gorgeous raspberry-red with a lighter termination area. The highly lustrous, striated, parallel-growth crystal has nifty stepped terminations, which are very glassy to matte. Complete all-around. A bit of termination edge wear is noted. Two contacts on the sides and a ding at the base of one side is noted but this is really quite lost in the overall glow of this brilliantly colorful crystal. This remains a visually impressive and rare elbaite style from this locale. It reminds us of famous Jonas Mine rubellites. It GLOWS, when backlit. 42 grams mass. valued $1500-2000
