Item Description
Gorgeous, gemmy and lustrous burnt-orange orpiment crystals to 1.1 cm with striking yellow highlights and sharp chisel terminations form a very aesthetic crust from the famous Quiruvilca Mine of Peru. Pieces of this outstanding quality came out from the 1970s to 1981, with none since. This piece is in superb condition, for its size, with only very trivial periphery wear. It is essentially pristine. Ex Clyde Hardin Collection. Quiruvilca Mine orpiment of this quality is comparable to any worldwide locality, including the well-known 2001 find at the famous Twin Creeks Gold Mine of Nevada. At one time before other locales in china and nevada produced, this could have been a $2500 specimen. Admittedly orpiment is more common now as the world developed. Still, Fairly valued at $750-1000. Only available through recycled advanced collections.
