Item Description
A vibrant cranberry-red gemmy/translucent tourmaline crystal from the end of 2011 finds from the Camp Robin area of Madagascar. This beauty has fine form, high luster, glassiness and sharpness. The color of the mottled interior becomes darker at the unusual slightly etched, modified pinacoidal termination. The well-striated crystal is gemmy when backlit and the colors explode. Complete all-around and pristine. An out-of-sight contact lower on the back, where another crystal once lay has no damage, per se. A very fine example of the find. This was originally sold as liddicoatite. It may be fluor-liddicoatite, liddicoatite, elbaite or other species. Single xl XRD and WDS analysis are needed to confirm which species are present. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $145, for free. 48 grams mass. This was originally priced in the Gallery at $2500. Here is your chance to get a very fine larger red Madagascar tourmaline at a reasonable price point.
