Item Description
A UNIQUELY rare, gemmy, beautiful heliodor and morganite crystal from a most obscure pegmatite in the Democratic Republic of Congo! The upper half of the stout, sharp, textbook, hexagonal beryl is beautiful water-clear, gem, yellow-green helidor with few internal veils. A 1.0 cm gem pretty light pink morganite section follows and is underlain with glassy, translucent, near colorless (goshenite) beryl. The termination and some of the prism faces are frosted, obscuring the internal view of this fascinating and VERY RARE beryl. You can see look down the frosted C-axis termination and see the pink morganite below. The crystal GLOWS, when backlit. Complete all-around and in excellent shape, for such a rarity. A termination contact with a bit of bruising and a ding on a prism face are noted, but have minimal impact to the quality and rarity of this striking beryl combination. Probably from the obscure Kobokobo pegmatite, a beryl and columbite pegmatite of which a zone is mineralized in uranium (MINDAT). The photo gallery shows uranium minerals but NO beryl or columbite photos. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 13050 with a torn label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). UNIQUE beryl with cuttable gem sections. 238 grams mass. Value for such a rare gem crystal?? We believe in the $2000-3000 range is fair.
