Item Description
Glorious gem blush-purple interpenetrating fluorite cubes, to 1.2 cm, form a RARE, beautiful and pristine 360-degree STALACTITE from this very obscure Weardale mine. This older lead mine was worked from 1818 to 1878 and later for fluorspar from 1900-1948 (MINDAT). Purple fluorescence under any bright light! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 514 and acquired from Scott Williams in the early 1950s, soon after the mine closed. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). RARE and exceptional fluorite from this historic old mine. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
