A beautiful, gemmy, intensely green emerald is nicely set on oxide-coated quartz matrix and is complimented by adjacent, blocky, calcite rhombs. The terminated emerald is 2.3 cm long, with the lower 8 mm being broken. The color, gemminess and quality of this crystal is definitely above average for the locale. One very seldom sees specimens for sale and Afghan emeralds are uncommon in collections. Mostly, they are sold over there for cutting and carving, especially in this quality, and seldom reach our side of the world.
