Item Description
A 7 mm, gemmy, pretty light green terminated emerald is aesthetically set on the VERY RARE blocky gossan matrix on this highly unusual old-timer from the famous emerald deposits of the Middle Urals. The matrix on every emerald specimen featured in the MINDAT photo gallery for the locale is schist. The cute tiny emerald and another crystal section are noted on the piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5629 and acquired in New York in March, 1969. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Probably dates to Imperial Russia (prior to World War I), but no proof. RARE, perhaps unique matrix emerald from the Urals.
