An outstanding and pristine large smoky quartz and spessartine garnet combination from Tongbei. The striking floater slightly tapered doubly terminated smoky has rich color and is very glassy and lustrous. The distinctively different terminations are water-clear gem with the translucent body having vertical veils. You can see the garnets embedded on a back face on the steep gem termination. The striking stepped-growth prism faces really enhance this beauty. Two generations of spesartines are aesthetically scattered on the prism faces: mostly small gem golden-yellow crystals; and a few large beautiful gem cinnamon-orange crystals. The dominating large crystal is 6 mm across. Impressions where many more garnets once lay on the prism faces add even more allure. Specimens of this quality are seldom on the market today, as very little new material has been recovered recently.
