Item Description

A 3.2 cm, striking, sculptural, doubly terminated and twinned, gemmy, colorless calcite crystal is aesthetically set on matrix covered with smaller calcite rhombs from the famed District. The very glassy, mostly transparent crystal has satin lustre faces, which dramatically highlight the two twinning planes on the crystal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2648 and acquired from Lindemann in Hamburg on September 15, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). She assembled a nice suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. A fascinating and uncommon old-time calcite style from the famous locale. It has multiple display views. The last mine closed in 1910. Pink calcite fluorescence.
