Item Description
These gorgeous color-zoned, supremely glassy and gemmy tourmalines from the famous Santa Rosa mine are some of the most distinctive and recognizable varieties from any Brazil locality. The vivid rich pink core is surrounded by and capped by stunning limpid teal-blue tourmaline. Adding even more drama to this outstanding 360-degree piece, the two parallel-growth crystals have two dramatically different terminations - one is a pinacoid and the other is pyramidal! Complete all-around and nearly pristine. A bit of trivial termination edge wear and a contact lower on one side, where another crystal once lay, but with no damage, per se are noted, but have very minimal impact to the overall outstanding quality of this richly colored gemmy classic. Discovered in 1967, this fine piece is undoubtedly from the 1960s or 70s finds. 28 grams mass. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5313. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Valued at $1750-2000 and worth it. MUCH BETTER in person. The extreme glassiness and gemminess made photography difficult.
