Item Description
The famous Sapo Mine produced some of the most stunning tourmalines in the late 1990s, including the gorgeous blue-caps. This striking and aesthetic example of two, intergrown, highly lustrous, translucent crystals features crystals with pink cores at the base, making them watermelon tourmalines. The crystals grade upward with various shades of blue-green and become gemmier. The small crystal has a touch of bright pink on a termination edge. Well-placed purple and colorless lepidolites are an outstanding compliment to the piece. The termination of the large crystal is lustrous and lightly frosted. The crystals glow, when backlit. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only very trivial termination edge wear to the crystals. This piece displays beautifully from either side and come with a custom-made lucite base valued at $50, for free. Ex Al Ordway Collection and acquired in 1999. Tourmalines of this varietal from the Sapo Mine are seldom on the market.
